SIMSS history/plan

Southern Illinois Middle School Soccer (SIMSS) began with a group of coaches getting together in December of 2014 down in Marion Illinois. Coaches from Harrisburg, Marion, and that area initiated the idea of getting a league where Southern Illinois towns would work together to get a league started for 6th-8th grade boys and girls that would lay the groundwork down for Middle Schools of this area to take over in years to come. They want soccer to be a school sport at the Middle School level. The plan was to have All Boys and All Girls teams at the larger schools and smaller schools could play co-ed. Player from the area are allowed to play on the team as long as a they don't belong to another participating school in the league. For example Salem Franklin Park school is the Base school for us, but other players in the area are allowed since Franklin Park is the only Salem participating school. Salem, Mt. Vernon and Centralia was also invited to the group hoping to get towns in our area to develop this effort as well. In February 2015, around 10 towns planned for the first season of SIMSS soccer. 4 years later it has grown to around 15 teams and some of the southern towns are very interested in getting the sport to become an actual Middle School sport.
