Salem Soccer Association's Junior Wildcat Traveling Team Program is expanding!
U14 (for 7th and 8th grade players)   &   U12 (for 5th and 6th grade players).

Two traveling teams are being offered to registered recreation league players. Players must try out for our Junior Wildcats teams and there is no additional charge to play on the team. We are excited about our 2 new coaches for our traveling teams.

Kyle Kelley will coach the U14. Kyle has been involved in soccer for many years and was the assistant coach for the 2008 Wildcat Boys team. Besides his extensive knowledge about soccer, Kyle's ability to demonstrate extreamly well how to dribble, pass, and shoot the ball will be very helpful in the training of our players.

Tim Donoho will coach the U12 traveling team. Tim has coached in the City league (the Orange Crush) and last fall coached the Strikers 5th and 6th grade team that played in the South West Illinois Soccer League (SWIS). The 5th and 6th grade boys and girls travel team kicks off fall practice at on August 6th at the First Christian Church (FCC)

Please see Our Purpose for details about our purpose and direction. It talks about recreation vs travel team.

Intimidated by there size, Salem got off to a slow start in the first game against Newton. With Newton up 4 to 0, the Junior Wildcats finally decided that they could compete and began to play. They scored 2 goals, bringing the score to 4 to 2 Newton, but it was too little too late for Salem as time ran out. Second game of the day was against Mt. Carmel. This looked and felt like the our Jr. High squad from Salem was facing a High School JV team. They will be tough for all the rest of the teams in our league. Final score was Mt. Carmel 6, Salem 0.
Double header in Teutopolis on September 19th:
Junior Wildcats Lose a heartbreaker 6 to 5 against Altamont

It was a new word for the team, but they now know what it means. In the second half, sure enough Altamont scored 2 goals to tie it up. Salem got serious again and tacked on 3 goals. With 10 minutes or so left in the game and Salem up 5 to 2, coach Mark put in some of the younger players, and shifted other players around. Altamont become very determined and scored 2 goals fairly quick. Coach Mark put the older players back in, but another word for Salem to learn was momentum. Altamont had it, and Salem couldn't stop it giving up 2 more goals making the final 6 to 5 Altamont. Game two of the day was against Teutopolis. Salem played a good game, but T-town claimed the game 4 to 1.
