Salem Wildcats go down against the Mt. Vernon Rams 3 to 0

The Tuesday soccer game against Mt Vernon was a tough match for the Wildcats.  The Rams came out strong with an early goal in the first half.  It was a very fast paced running game with the Rams coach doing frequent substitutions and taking advantage of the greater team size.  By the end of the first half Salem was down two to zero.  Blake Johnson and Same Follett of Salem both had opportunities to take a shot on goal, however both were blocked by the Mt. Vernon defense.

In the second half, the Rams were able to drive a third goal past the Wildcats goal keeper, Dan Conklin.  Conklin made a total of nine saves, including a very difficult diving save on a penalty kick.  Despite all the team’s efforts, Mt Vernon took home a victory with a final score of three to zero. The Wildcats will be playing again on Thursday at Olney and a third game this week on Saturday at Breese Central.

Boys Wildcat Soccer Opening Game in Centralia

You're Salem Wildcat Boys Soccer team opened up their first season in an away game at Centralia against the Christ Our Rock Silver Stallions. At the end of the first half, the score was Wildcat's three and Stallion's zero. During the second half Salem tacked on one more goal for a final score of Salem four and Christ our Rock zero.
Coaches Bernie Johnson and Kyle Kelley have done a great job to get this newly formed team up to the level of play we enjoyed Tuesday evening. In my opinion, the team shows some real potential to be a contender in their initial season.
In the opening half, goals were scored by Junior Tyler Brendel, Junior Zeke Light, and Freshman Chris Heckman. All three goals were assisted by Senior Sam Follett. Our additional goal scored in the second half was the result of a corner kick by Senior Blake Johnson finished off by a header from Zeke Light. An additional exciting moment in the second half was the bicycle shot taken by Zeke Light around the 18 yard line over the defense saved by the Christ Our Rock Keeper.
One of the Stats that Soccer teams keep is the Shot On Goal count. Salem had ten and Christ Our Rock four, all stopped by Salem's Goalkeeper Dan Conklin. This indicates a great job done by the Wildcat defense. All players are to be congratulated by their strong effort and good luck to our Wildcats and coach Curtis Wudtke's Silver Stallion's for a good season.
