U14 (7th and 8th grade players) & U12 (5th and 6th grade players). This is recreation league soccer. The U14 league has 4 teams and the U12 league has 3 teams. A recreation league plays games against other teams in it's league. The season is 6 games and concludes in a 2 game tournament at the end of the season. After the teams are selected, they will practice usually once a week. The season will run through the middle of May. We are moving to a U14 and U12 designation for our two leagues. U14 refers to Under 14 years old on a designated date. Currently we are using September 1st 2010. This is used for the current school year and will change to 9/1/2011 for the fall 2011 season. Therefore players age (14 and under on 9/1/2010) may play in our U14 league. They may even be 14 years old now. The U12 league can accept players that are currently 10 to 12 years old. Remember its under 12 as of 9/1/2010. The four U14 teams are the Tiger, Panthers, Cheetahs, and the team from Vandalia. This league plays on the full size field usually playing 11 verses 11 players. The new U12 league will play on a roughly 3/4 sized field with 8 verses 8 players just like the South West Illinois Soccer League (SWIS) plays in their 5th/6th grade league. Additional details including plans for the fall season and Salem Soccer Association"s Statement of Purpose and Direction may be found on the Our Purpose page. Players interested in travel team soccer will find more information on the Junior Wildcats page.

It rained most of the day, however we were fortunate to play between a few of the storm systems with the exception of the last five minutes in the last game. There was a lot of water on the field and during the first game a shot that was rolling into the goal died on the line because of water. Field conditions were sloppy, however the players seemed to have a lot of fun. All the goalies did a great job of catching and holding on to a wet and muddy soccer ball. Soccer and Football are sports that generally don’t let the weather deter games with the exception of thunder and lightning. Game one of the day was between the TIGERS coached by Doug and Kristen Miller, and the SABERCATS coached by Todd Hartwig. Six minutes into the 1st half, Jonathon Kingery scored the first of two goals for the Sabercats. With 2 minutes left in the half, Ford Barnfield scored the second goal.
